Flow Trinidad and Tobago – either stupid or corrupt

After reading the interview in the Daily Express today with Flow’s CEO I can’t help come to the conclusion that Flow is a sleazy and even corrupt organization. Imagine they were selling channels they had no rights to for five years and use the excuse they did not know who to pay – yes five years. This is like renting out a house you do not own to people and pocketing all the money because you do not know who owns the house. That is a crime, Flow. Flow had to be either stupid or corrupt and since they are making millions I don’t think they are stupid.

Does Flow know that DirecTV does not behave in this type of underhand and sleazy manner as Flow and DirecTV is now gaining subscribers at a fast rate due to having a superior product at better prices than Flow – honesty pays. All I can conclude is that Flow was playing a waiting game because they know how ineffective the telecom authorities were. Flow was gaining customers with stolen channels and now they are exposed and embarrassed for being big time thieves they are all over the place making feeble excuse after feeble excuse. What a big pack of corrupt jokers. As a customer I don’t want any rebate, I just want to see heads roll, or even flow. That would be satisfying enough. Anyway, I do have some questions for Flow

(1) If the telecom authority (TATT) did not step in would you still be carrying those channels?

(2) Do you think you misrepresented your channel lineup to customers by giving them the impression they were paying for these channels as you were also paying for them?

(3) Is Flow’s corporate policy to steal and not get caught?

RBTT Crap Continues in 2011

RBTT lies to customers

RBTT, or is it RBC, is what most customers call the new Public Service and in Trinidad and Tobago this says a lot. By that I mean it is not an organization that cares about its customers. This is why RBTT decided to shut down its electronic banking system over a weekend and as if  it wanted to make the public service look good, the disrespectful bank  also lied to customers. When I say lie I mean put out an ad saying it was shutting its electronic banking service and in bold say ONLY AT WITHDRAWALS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. That was and is a lie. Most customers were unable to access cash from ANY AMB since Saturday evening and this was still so on Sunday morning. Maybe somebody high up at RBTT is being fed bullshit by the incompetent RBTT IT people just as the AG was fed crap by his investigators.  I again say, somebody at RBTT has to be fired for this continuing indifference to customers.

Proof of RBTT's flair for lies

Maybe people were fired the last time a huge fiasco occurred but the public needs to know that the bank is getting rid of its incompetence. To correct this continuing incompetence and indifference by RBTT to customers, people need to show the bank who has the power. Money talks but money also walks.

Trinidad and Tobago – A Nation Conveniently In Crisis?

The Chinese say out of crisis comes opportunity and that is why Trinidad and Tobago is the land of opportunistic people, not only the Chinese. Last week the Prime Minister said no more fetes in national sporting complexes probably because  of the high cost of  repairing The National Flagpole but the very next day Ministers were meeting to solve the perennial problem of nowhere to wine.

But a crisis isn’t always created for the opportunity to look good but sometimes to create the opportunity to fast track a tender award to those contractors who can charge several flagpoles more just by saying yes they can deliver in Chinese time. Even if the taxpayers will have to borrow to finance these fast tracked schemes, it will happen.  The reason for cost overruns in many Government contracts might be due to a change in design by mysterious forces and soil, resulting in a nice crisis midway through the project giving the contractor the opportunity to buy those two extra S-Class Mercedes along with that high-rise apartment his girlfriend always demanded for her sex-tape grade services. Only with this well planned, sudden design change will Mr. Contractor be able to spring for that industrial grade 10-speed blender his wife had her eye on for years. The opportunities taxpayers subsidize.

The traffic “crisis” is another opportunity to give those “fast” contractors the chance to overbid just to help the population, waiting in traffic, to get from A to B without using a shoulder.  The crime “crisis” can, or has provided “security supply companies” with the opportunity to deliver crime suppression supplies urgently at top dollar so the public and select suppliers would be impressed how serious the authorities are about alleviating their suffering. Besides, the crime “crisis” now employs both non-criminals and criminals thus making crime more organized and an all encompassing industry. The health care system will continue to fall apart once there is money to be made from people, who have no private practice or Government contracts, suffering in hospital corridors. The urgent need to impress foreign “leaders” is now causing the fast tracking of many things cultural including the cutting of the bush along the highway. The next new “crisis” will be water as the population is running out of tires and foam mattresses to drag and burn.

Out of crisis comes opportunity and if done properly, there will be no Commission of Enquiry.

The Firing of a Journalist or The Cover up

THE PLAGIARISTI have been toying with ideas for a short story but haven’t been able to come up with many plots. I am new to short stories and only know about blog post, which is a type of writing that is inherently bad, in my case.

However, sometimes ideas hit you when you least expect it, like when looking for something to read in a newspaper that was once interesting and credible. At least that newspaper gave me an idea for a short story which might be called The Firing of a Journalist, or The Cover Up. I might even call it The Plagiarist:

Idea and for a short story – take 1:

An exceptionally talented and brilliant journalist of a popular daily newspaper discovers that a person who is about to be appointed a member of a commission to oversee integrity in a corrupt, banana republic is a serial plagiarist. The journalist confronts the prospective chairman with the accusation and the accused admits to plagiarizing – mainly because the evidence was very strong.  The accuser still goes ahead and accepts the post of chairman claiming he told his appointer about the plagiarizing and his appointer said “no big thing.”

The journalist realizes something is amiss and decides to go public with the information. For rather strange reasons, the owners of the newspaper the journalist works for warn the journalist about going public and threaten the journalist with dismissal or something similar. The journalist, a man of genuine integrity, refuses to keep silent because he understands the consequences of this silence, and a rival newspaper breaks the plagiarizing news. The public is horrified that such a person of high public standing can be appointed to a commission of integrity despite his appointer knowing about the plagiarism. The newly appointed chairman resigns a few days after his appointment citing some vague law and conveniently not the plagiarism. The journalist is dismissed by his employers because of his integrity. The public likens the newspaper to being pro-corruption, pro-bullying, pro-clique, pro-hypocrite.

Disclaimer:

Any resemblance of the above plot to actual events in any country is purely, and even sadly, coincidental.

Sales 101

salesman1Some salesmen believe they must know how to either hide the truth or lie. Yesterday, a salesman tried to convince me a product the company I work for bought had no problems. The salesman said the user was the problem and not the product. When I pointed out his competitors’ products never had that problem he went silent and tried to make a joke. This wasn’t a laughing matter and the attitude of this multi-billion dollar US company and their salesman was appalling.

What salesmen don’t realize is how hard it is to win the confidence of customers and how easy it is to lose that confidence. Salesmen work for commission and at any cost. This is wrong. The value of a salesman to the company he represents is more than the sales he makes. Salesmen should be paid for the trust they build and trust can only be built through honesty. Recent events have thought us that building trust through dishonesty can only build a house of cards. Some salesmen never learn to do it any other way.
